If you are using portfolio assessment in your classroom, a digital portfolio is a great way to reduce paperwork and capture work samples while still allowing students to take the originals home. Digital portfolios can be created through commercial portfolio assessment programs or through a hypermedia authoring program. The advantage of the former is that the template for the portfolio is created for you, making it easier to just jump in. If you use a hypermedia authoring program, you first have to learn the program. The advantage of the latter, however, is that you can customize the portfolio to fit your needs.
Refer to the Alternative Assessment focus and action plan.
